Founded in 1948, by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (even before he was president), Ghana national has remained a top tier mixed school offering good training for its students. The school competes on a high level with the very top schools in terms of academics and sports. Survey shows that clubs and societies are not as active. The old student association is fairly active and networked. The school has a highly maintaining and constantly updated website that gives the general public a feel of the school’s good showing in academics and sports. STUDENTS SAY “…” Teachers are generally committed to work. One student mentions however that there are too many old teachers who should give way for new teachers. Students reiterate that more encouragement is needed from the top to motivate them to participate in clubs, societies and extracurricular activities. More clubs should be encouraged to enliven the social atmosphere on campus. Students appreciate the good level of discipline and love Saturday entertainment. One entertainment fan, however noted that new entertainment equipment should be bought National, the school’s nickname is indeed a national school that embraces students from different backgrounds. It was founded on 20 July 1948, staffed by dismissed teachers from St Augustine’s College and Mfantsipim School. The college was founded by the first Ghanaian President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who used his own funds to sponsor for eight students who had been expelled by the British colonial administration from St Augustine’s College. The expulsion resulted from a protest march, held in solidarity with Nkrumah, who was then imprisoned. Ghana National College was established on Friday, 16 July 1948, in Cape Coast, during a period of agitation for self-governance in the then Gold Coast. Ironically it was named Ghana National College nine years before The Gold Coast achieved independence in 1957, and the country was named Ghana. WESLEY GIRLS’ SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
About: AB REVIEW SAYS Established in 1896 and named after John Wesley, founder of the Methodist church, Wesley girls High School has stayed true to its remarkable history as one of the leading senior high schools in the country providing top-notch facilities and a congenial environment for studies. Setting and breaking their own records, their academic performance is envied by its competitors. Aside academics, students perform outstandingly in sports and other extracurricular activities. The old student association is a thriving one, highly networked and consistently supporting their Alma Mata. Wey Gey Hey( as they are nicknamed) is a leader in the training of students. Students are trained to right the wrongs in the society which is in unison with the school’s motto. The school, however, has been criticized for being overly strict and for prohibiting final year students from seeing or calling their parents completely during the term. This may not be such a hard price to pay considering the excellent academic records they produce each year. STUDENTS SAY “…” Students appreciate the high level of discipline portrayed by school and the neat environment it offers. The ability to wear mufti attire after class hours make students feel at home in school. Interesting comments made by respondents: while some called for an extension of resting hours, others called for the extension of the preps time. Students wish for more time for computer training and more variety in the school’s menu. Trafficking to the chapel (filing to the chapel) is a sight to behold. One prefect sums it up this manner “A Wesley girls high school training nurtures one to be socially responsible, disciplined and above all unique in her disposition. The school was founded by the wife of the 2nd Methodist Missionary to the Gold Coast, Mrs. Harriet Wrigley in 1836 with 25 girls. Her aim was to give the girls basic training in housekeeping and catechism. Subjects taught included writing, reading, sewing and religious education. Classes were held at the Manse, in the Standfast Hall near the Victoria Park in Cape Coast. However, five months after arrival, Mrs. Wrigley died. It was not until 1837 that an efficient school head in the person of Mrs. Elizabeth Waldron took over the running of the school. She administered the school for 43 good years and laid a solid foundation for what was to become the Wesleyan Girls’ School and Training Home .To provide a holistic and quality education in partnership with stakeholders to produce God-Fearing, well-balanced, disciplined and self-confident individuals capable of taking the challenges of a fast-changing world in their stride. • Creating a propitious environment for the spiritual and moral development of each girl. • Providing what it takes to attain and sustain the highest academic standard.

WEST AFRICA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
About: AB REVIEW SAYS West Africa Senior High School is located in Adenta in the Greater Accra Region. The school has posted satisfactory achievements in academics and has a lively social environment. Teachers are generally commended for their dedication to work but some students revealed from the survey that some teachers weren’t putting in their best effort. The school’s discipline level has improved considerably but more work needs to be done to bring it to par with its counterparts. The social environment on campus is exciting (a plus considering it is a day school) with students actively taking part in clubs and societies and various extracurricular activities. Some of the active clubs and societies in the school include GUNSA, Debating Club and religious groups such as the Scripture Union. The school has won many laurels in the field of sports and boasts of many individual and team records in athletics. The school has a mediocre internet presence and should take steps in using available media networks showcase its profile across board. Creating a more challenging and competitive environment for the students could help improve the school’s academic performances. West Africa Senior High school is in the La – Nkwantanang, Madina MunicipalityIt was originally located at Lagos Town and moved to its current location at Adenta in 1987It is a government assisted mixed, day and Non-Denominational school To raise the human resource level of the school to the highest standard and to provide infrastructural development for the benefit of staff and entire students.
