GHANA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, KOFORIDUA
GHANA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, KOFORIDUA
About: AB REVIEW SAYS Ghana Senior High School, located in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region is according to our survey a top school in the country. The school provides a clean, graceful and natural environment that gives students the right learning environment to pursue their academic pursuits. The school has creditable facilities but there were calls for the equipping of the computer lab with new computers. Calls were also made for the equipping of the science lab. The WASSCE results over the last few years has being improving consistently and kudos is been given to the school administration for upping their game in the academic field. However, student participation in clubs and societies is not as active compared to other schools in the region. Students should be encouraged to nurture their talents by taking part in extracurricular activities. The school old student association can also do more in support of upgrading the school’s facilities STUDENTS SAY “…” Teachers are commended for their great commitment to work. One student writes this has culminated in an improvement in the final year results. Discipline level is on the high with students having great respect for each other. Students (especially the girls) pride themselves in their uniforms. It makes them look smart and trendy. A lot of the students made mention of their nice school compound and how it improves the learning environment. Students also complained that the school auditorium was small for the growing population. In 1943, MrFred Addae and MrFrancis Adjei Tetebo established a school with an initial population of 16 boys called Phoenix College in a private temporary building By 1950, an increase in student population necessitated the movement of the school into a new location which currently houses the Normal Technical Institute, KoforiduaThe change in location brought in its wake a change in the school’s name from Phoenix College to Christ CollegeThe location of the premises had to change again after some time to respond to the increasing student population Thus, the school moved into Effiduase where it was housed at the current premises of Effiduase Police Quarters in Koforidua, Ghana To become an instrument of effective teaching and learning that will give its students requisite knowledge To provide curricular programs that would empower the students, propel them to aspire to greater heights and develop affection for the school
