PRESBYTERIAN BOYS SECONDARY SCHOOL-LEGON
PRESBYTERIAN BOYS SECONDARY SCHOOL-LEGON
About: AB REVIEW SAYS Undoubtedly touted by most as the school with the most impressive academic records in the country, Presby Boys Senior High popularly referred to as Presec is arguably the most selective school in the country. The school was founded in 1938 and was originally located at Odumase – Krobo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Every bright lad wants to attend Presec, and don the blue magic (referring to the blue shirts they wear), hence the high level of admission selectivity. The school is noted for its prowess in science but is equally good in all other programs it offers. The only school to win the prestigious National Math and Science Quiz 5 times, winning it back to back in the last two editions, Presec has set standards to be unrivalled. One unique trait of majority of the students is that they believe one can only excel as a Presecan if one can learn and assimilate with less supervision. It has an enviable rapport with sister school, Abugiss. The “Odadie”, (school’s alumni name) is an active group but can do more to support the alma mata in modernizing the schools facilities to befit its image as a leading school in the country. STUDENTS SAY “…” Students appreciate the warm reception of staff. One junior calls for school counseling for students with emotional problems. Another believes the course “Principle for purposeful living should be re-enacted”. Presecans love to learn and research. Opportunities are given to students to apply for scholarships and partake in interschool’s competition. Clubs, societies and sports are active, encouraged and play a big role in the social atmosphere on campus. Remarks by rival schools indicate that the school’s Campus must be beautified to match up with its standard in academics. The Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School was established by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on 1st February, 1938 at Odumase Krobo in the Eastern RegionThe school started with 16 students who were selected through special entrance examination and with 4 teachers. The first Headmaster of the school was RevEAWEngmann, a 35 year old man, who made the vision of the Presbyterian Church to establish an all-male Secondary School started by the Church’s first Synod Clerk, RevNTClerk, a realityIn 1968, the school moved to its current location, Legon in the Greater Accra RegionThe current Head of the school is Ms. Lady Queene Asiedu-Akrofi, who is assisted by MsDora Danquah-Darko, Assistant Head (Administration), MrJohn Odame Adjei, Assistant Head (Academic) The Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School is dedicated to helping all students achieve their potential through scholarship, character development, civic responsibility, creative expression and Career/Post-Secondary preparation To provide a safe and secure environment, quality instruction, personal guidance, and challenging learning opportunities for all studentsThe school exists to equip students for a fuller life to which Christian education based on the Presbyterian tradition opens the door

ACCRA HIGH SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
ACCRA HIGH SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
About: AB REVIEW SAYS Arguably Accra’s best all day school; Accra Senior High School has a long rich history. The school over the years has posted creditable results in academics and in extracurricular activities too. The School, which was established in 1923, the first Secondary School in the then Eastern Province of the Gold Coast started as a private school and a boarding school was later converted into a public and day school. Survey shows that the school’s strongest weakness is its poor presence on the internet. Creating a website and profiling the school’s image on search engines can help bolster the school’s ratings. The school has up to standard facilities including science lab, library, technical divisions, etc. As a day school, one would expect that the social environment on campus is not as impressive as boarding schools. However, that is not the case at Accra High. Clubs and societies are generally active and students usually participate in extracurricular activities. Not much is heard of the school’s old student association. STUDENTS SAY “…” Teachers are commended for the strong dedication to work. In addition, students applaud the good job being done by the school counselors, one of few schools to highlight that area. Students say they are motivated by teachers to bring out their best. This allows for a good student-teacher relationship. Students’ participation in clubs and societies is impressive. Accra high students are excited about their school and do encourage others to be part of this great institution. Accra High School was founded by the late RevJames Roberts, an educationist, on 17th August, 1923 at AayaloloHe was ably assisted by Barristers JA Glover-Addo, Harry Riberio, EOQuist and GAkilakpa Sawyer, DrEVNanka-Bruce and Messrs JAVanderpuye, John Backman, SOAkiwumi, AJOcansey, JPGarshong and Charles Kojo Bruce It was a private institution until 1952, when it was granted official recognition by the CPP GovernmentThe school was moved to its present site on 22nd September 1967, when MrANBAndrews was the HeadmasterAccra High School remained the only secondary school in the eastern province of the Gold Coast many years after it was founded To elevate Accra High School to a first class educational institution in Ghana and West Africa by providing holistic education to its students Identifying and building the capacity of the youth by creating and promoting a democratic school environment, innovative teaching methods and responsible citizenship education, through a well-motivated and resourceful staff
