ST. AUGUSTINES COLLEGE
ST. AUGUSTINES COLLEGE
About: AB REVIEW SAYS A prestigious all-male academic institution located at Old Elmina road, Cape-coast, a stone-throw from the University of Cape-coast, Saint Augustine’s College popularly known as Augusco sits on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a highly selective school particularly known for its outstanding Economics and business programs but do extremely well in all other programs they offer. The old students association (APSUNIANS) is a solid group that is highly networked and greatly supports the school. HOPSA, the acronym for a joint Holy Child and Augusco’s old student association is a thriving union that connects the two “siblings”. Augusco triumphs in sports and extracurricular activities. This is so because the school’s administration gives much needed support to developing sports in the school. One controversial tradition observed at the school is that Senior Prefects and Protocol prefects should be Roman Catholics. AB Review has reservations as to whether that should be a hard and fast rule. STUDENTS SAY “…” The school is one of few schools that provide scholarship programs for students unable to afford tuition. Students say teachers are very assiduous and discipline is upheld. One student notes however that teachers should be more flexible in administering punishment. Student participation in clubs and societies should be encouraged more. There is a common appreciation for the level of togetherness students portray at “interco”. Dining hall food should be improved and renovation of basketball court is imminent. Respondents were overwhelmingly excited about the school and promise incoming students a real Augusco treat. To produce students of sound, moral and intellectual training according to Catholic traditions which make for a perfect christian and a perfect citizen. • To promote discipline and morality among students. • To help and guide students to achieve academic and moral excellence. • To develop individual talents and skills of students. • To inculcate values and positive attitude in students.
