BOLGATANGA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
BOLGATANGA SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
About: AB REVIEW SAYS Popularly known as Big Boss for their prowess in all areas in connection with education, Bolgatanga Senior High is arguably the leading school in the Upper East Region and among the best in the country. Founded in 1970, the school with a student population of over 1300 is endowed with good facilities: science labs, library, classroom blocks, and dormitories. More accommodation provision however is needed for teachers and the street must be rehabilitated. The school’s PTA is a very supportive one, playing major roles in the school’s image as a top one. It recently renovated a dormitory block, donated 26 computers to the school and gave a SSNIT block to the teachers. The school’s academic result is an enviable one, posting for the last 5 years an average of 93% passes. The social environment on campus is impressive with active clubs and societies. However calls were made by students for more variety in their entertainment programs. The school lacks a vibrant internet presence. Survey shows that boosting the school’s internet presence by way of adapting a website can help project the school’s academic prowess across the country and to the rest of the world. Bolgatanga Senior High School (Big Boss) is situated in Winkogo, about 8km south of Bolgatanga, the Upper East Regional CapitalEven though called Bolgatanga Senior High School, it is actually within the Talensi DistrictIt was founded in 1970 in Zuarungu at the same campus presently occupied by Zuarungu Senior High School in 1970, precisely on the 15th October, with MrBayala CJYibrul as its first Headmaster. The school started with a student population of seventy-five (75), three(3) teaching staff and eight(8)supporting staff Faced with lack of space (land) to develop, the first batch wrote their GCE/SC Examination at Zuarungu in 1975The second batch wrote the examination in 1976, which was the first final examination in Winkogo To nurture and develop a reputable world class second cycle institution capable of churning out self-motivated and self-disciplined students imbibed with excellent leadership skills to compete in the globalized world Striving to achieve excellence through the harnessing of available human, financial and material resources to provide and optimize opportunities for JHS graduates admitted to the school, to unearth their potentials through self-awareness and self-realization for their own good
