AB REVIEW SAYS Located in the historic city of Cape-Coast, on the beautiful central coast of Ghana, Adisadel College is among the many fine educational institutions that have rendered the central coast as the cradle of premium education in Ghana. The school sprawls over an area of approximately 1.5 square kilometers over hills and valleys in a suburb of Cape-coast known as Adisadel. A prestigious Anglican school, established in 1910, the Santaclusians as they are referred to is the second oldest secondary school in Ghana, and one of the famous institutions of learning in Sub-Saharan Africa. It was recently ranked by Africaalmanaac as amongst the top ten schools in Africa. Adisco boys are called the zebra boys because of the resemblance of their uniform to the zebra. The school is endowed with unique facilities including a gymnasium, language lab, sports stadium, infirmary, amongst others. The school provides a rigorous academic training, at the same time it encourages all of its students to participate in some form of recreational and sporting activities. There exist a keen but productive rivalry between Adisadel College and Mfantsipm School. Competitive nature of Adisadel students can be correctly linked to the school’s motto “Vel Primus, Vel cum Primus”, which means either the first or with the first. STUDENTS SAY “…” Few students we interviewed showed as much excitement about their school as Adisco students did. Student participation in clubs and societies is very impressive and supported by school. The school is the only one with three soccer fields. Students do enjoy entertainment. One student writes: Adisco offers the best entertainment and has produced numerous musicians including the late Terry Bonchaka, Jay-Dee, T-blaze and many more. Students also appreciate the teachers’ dedication to work. One concern is that teachers should interfere less with prefects’ duties. Infrastructure wise, one student called for an assembly hall and another complained about the water problems in the metropolis. School alumni greatly support their Alma Mata. Adisco is a top school by all standards. Adisadel was founded on January 4th, 1910 by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (S.P.G.). The school was then named SPG Grammar School. In 1924 the name was changed to St Nicholas Grammar School. When the school was relocated to its present location in early 1936 from downtown Cape Coast, it assumed its current nameAdisadel College. To be the first class educational institution exceeling in all fields of endeavours through the provision of a conducive environment and with the active involvement of all stakeholders to motivate both staff and students to achieve the best.
