AB REVIEW SAYS The second largest school in the Northern Region only after Tamasco, Ghana senior high is by all standards a top school. With a population of 1800, the co-educational institution has shown impressive academic and sports achievements. A consistent strong prowess in sports from the school has won it the name Sports College. The school has basic facilities including dining hall (old and new), science lab, administration block, etc. The school also has a mosque since most of the students are Muslims. The school’s alumni are relatively strong but can do more to upgrade the school’s facilities to modern ones. STUDENTS SAY “…” Modernization of school’s facilities is imperative. Students call for a solution to the water problem the school faces and the renovation of the science resource centre. Teachers are generally committed to work. One student comments though that teachers should be more punctual to class. Students appreciate the impressive level of discipline and the great social environment on campus. This, the survey shows is as a result of the students’active participation in clubs and societies that play a vital role in school’s activities. Ghana Senior High School, Tamale was established by the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Government as one of the Ghana Education Trust Schools in 1960�In June 1970, a historic feat was chalked by the school when Mr�Lalaji, a Mathematics teacher and his Science students invented a rocket�On 22nd June, 1970 the rocket was launched in the school with the Minister of Education, Mr�William Offori Attah in attendance�Ghana Senior High School is located off the Tamale Teaching Hospital road�It is one of the best performing schools in the country�For the past two years, the school has been ranked first in academic ranking of schools in the Northern Region� This commitment is due to the high level of commitment and dedication to duty by the staff coupled with effective supervision� To provide formal education to qualified Basic School Leavers, admit B�E�C�E�leavers and ensure they acquire the requisite qualification for further training in tertiary institutions to be productive by promoting socio economic development�To appoint and maintain qualified, competent and devoted teaching staff and also admit B�E�C�E�leavers who attain aggregate six (6) to thirty (30) and ensure that the latter are imbibed in quality academic, moral and disciplined training with academic qualifications.
